Head to the best beach in the country for some action-packed exploits on a fabulous summer staycation this year..
Woolacombe Bay is top of the UK seasides, according to TripAdvisor users.
And as if that honour isn’t enough, this North Devon beach was also named fourth in all of Europe and 13th in the whole world , beating more traditional seaside destinations in Turkey, Dubai and the Maldives. Talk about kicking sand in their faces…
So what makes it so special? As one impressed holidaymaker said: “It’s three miles of heaven. In wild weather, it is beautiful. In good weather, it is a delight.”
It’s wide, golden and there are always white horses on the waves, whether the tide is coming or going. There are pools for exploring and rocks for scrambling over.
Whatever your tribe – sun worshipper, dog walker, castle-builder, bodyboarder – you’ll find a space to enjoy yourself.
Children paddle safely during the summer and serious surfers come from all over the country to enjoy the great waves and clean water
There are practical reasons why the beach will get your vote, too. There are plenty of car parks, a café, and a wetsuit hire shop as you walk down the sloping path to the sand, where there are rides and a bouncy castle for children who need to burn off the chips you’ve bought them from the mobile van.
As well as sunbathing Baywatch beauties, we saw couples wrapped up in jumpers (this is England, after all) enjoying the glorious day while their little ones splashed about.
Nearby Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park is set in 28 acres of spectacular sub-tropical greenery. They have lions, primates, wolves, sea lions, otters, exotic birds, creepy-crawlies and life-sized animatronic dinosaurs.
The park is right near part of the Tarka Trail – so lace up your walking shoes to explore some of the trails that wind their way through gorgeous countryside and along beautiful routes with sea views.
It really is the best of British for summer.
